video editor for finding the story within
video editor for finding the story within
I graduated from Loyola Chicago with a B.A. in Communication and a focus on Radio, Tv and Film in 2003. It was during my senior year that I discovered editing. My professor pulled me aside and told me I had a real gift and should consider an internship and possible career in the world of post production. I was absolutely in love with this medium and soon found myself working as an intern in one of the top post houses in all of Chicago, Cutters Studios. After working my way up to Senior Assistant Editor, I decided to move back home to Kansas City, Mo. The amazing Teri Rogers hired me to be an Editor full time at Hint (formerly T2). For the past 8 years I’ve had the pleasure of working for myself and partnering with the best KC has to offer including: VMLY&R, Hallmark, Rush Wade and many others. However, it is not the brand I care most about, but the story. Every editor will tell you their style and what constitutes a good edit - the age old question. For me, it is one thing: it makes you FEEL. Every edit must pull emotion out of the viewer, whether the emotion is already there, or the emotions are molded for you. If I make you feel something, I have done my job.
Video is the most powerful tool in the world, no other medium comes close. An expertly crafted edit can actually tell you how to feel and what to think. The best stories are the ones that take you deep inside the life of another, and have the ability to change your perspective. To feel what they feel, and to see what they see. Editing can change the world.
Some stories must be discovered. This is especially true with some of the best documentaries. Someone did not sit down to write a script. They shot hundreds of hours of footage and the editor then found that story longing to be told.
